Entry Requirements

Evidence of English proficiency

You have to obtain either:

  • A tertiary qualification (degree level or higher) in English, or
  • Completing a formal English proficiency test at a certain score, e.g. IELTS 5.5 or above), or
  • Complete the Versant English Placement Test with a minimum score of B1. SIIT can arrange this test for you at no cost (maximum one test sitting per applicant per intake).

Please Note: This course is only available to Australian Permanent Residents or Citizens. It is not available to international students on a student visa. If you hold a temporary visa (other than a student visa) with full study rights, you may be eligible to apply.
This course is designed for minor-language speakers with existing skills and/or experience in interpreting and/or translating. For speakers of major languages such as Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, Arabic, and Korean, we strongly recommend enrolling in a Diploma course in Interpreting or Translating instead.
